This little tree is a star in my garden. I'm in zone 9, but it holds its color despite the summer heat. If you must plant it this far south, make sure it's an understory planting surrounded by larger trees, and keep it well-watered.

afer comparing Japanese Maples, I came
across the Bloodgood Maple and knew that
my search was over. The colors are outstanding as is the shape of the tree.

Mine was planted as a 10-year anniversary present for my husband in 1980. It is still beautiful, but is beginning to show some leaf and limb dieback on one side, but I would still recommend it.
