Buy Don Egolf Redbud online. Is somewhat more compact in growth habit (9' tall by 9.5' wide in 15 years) than Avondale or seedling Chinese Redbuds. When in flower it really is a sight to behold, with its bright pink flowers so tightly packed on the stems as to obscure the bark. The floral display is all the more impressive because you'll find flowers solid from the branches all the way to the ground. The plant in full flower actually looks a lot like a pinata done in shrub-form. We must not fail to mention that this variety is also completely sterile, so there is no need to worry about reseeding or untidy pods hanging-on all winter. For USNA info and photos click here.

Family: Fabaceae · Common Name: Redbud

Redbud is a fascinating genus of small trees with several species and many varieties and cultivars. Native to the eastern and southern US, Redbuds are scattered throughout the countryside’s and are one of the first trees to flower in early spring, along with Dogwoods. Redbuds require well draining soil even to the point of being rocky. If planted in wet or poorly draining soils the trees will decline in health rather quickly. Best planted high and dry!

FREE with every plant purchased:
