Ohio (Hardiness Zone: 1)
This Red Maple cultivar has the most consistent red fall color out of all my maples. In northern Ohio the color change tends to be late October a week or two after the other maples. Some of the newest growth that hasn't had time to harden off doesn't make it through winter, but it's somewhat insignificant. The branching is very dense and requires little or no pruning to maintain a well structured tree. I would recommend raking the mulch away from under this tree in early spring and add a good layer or compost, then recover the area: since I tried this tip the tree has been much darker green and started it's growth spurt a bit sooner.
