Buy Fine Line® Buckthorn online. A great landscape plant, Fine Line® Buckthorn combines the feathery foliage of 'Aspenifolia' with the narrow upright habit of 'Columnaris.' Use in narrow hedgerows for privacy, or as an accent plant. It's a great vertical accent for the perennial garden, and the narrow habit is perfect for framing entrances. This is an extremely useful, architectural plant for the home or commercial landscape. This cultivar produces very few fruit, none of which have been shown to be viable.
Family: Rhamnaceae · Common Name: Buckthorn

Old Hickory, TN (Hardiness Zone: 6)
I purchased this plant, three, as accents for the back garden wall on my bonsai veiwing area, and, three more for a mini screen along my deck. With an underplanting of Ophiopogan japonicus 'Nana' and a fencing background of split bamboo the effect is wonderful, in the bonsai area. The fine cut foliage of Rhamnus frangula 'Ron Willams' is spectacular. The dark green cut leaf foliage texture compliments the surrounding area. The texture of the bark is not much mentioned when you read information regarding this plant. Talk about all year round interest. The bark has light grey lenticles contrasting with the umber shaded bark that is more promeninent in the winter, but are still no less showy in the summer full leaf season. I find this shrub does better, in my area, 6b, in full moning sun with afternoon shade. The 3 others that I have in full sun are doing fine with the same soil conditions, yet are growing at a much slower rate albeit with zero sun burn. Full sun in southern regions with more humidity seem to slow the growth a bit, but when given morning sun with late afternoon shade the plant seems to do wonderful. The bright yellow fall colour of the leaves hold on for well into November/late December, here in Tennessee. This plant has been also very drought tolerant. We have had 2 years of very minimal rainfall. I have not watered them much after they had been established (one season). They have shown no adverse effects of our drought. All in all a great shrub that requies little care once established. A beautiful accent and/or unusual hedge planting for someone looking for the tasteful yet unusual look in a garden planting. I do hope this helps for those looking at the purchase of this shrub.

OK (Hardiness Zone: 7)
Rhamnus frangula 'Ron Williams' is a superb plant!!! I bought two of these from Sooner Plant Farm about 3 years ago. I have them on either side of our walkway onto our porch. We live in Zone 7a, and have these on the North side of our house. They get mostly shade throughout the year. I believe that because they're in the shade, their fall yellow isn't as spectacular as I would hope. That in NO WAY makes me love these plants any less!! They are so different than the cookie cutter, builder-grade plants around here. Very flowy and delicate looking, but very tough and hardy!!! Oh, and just a quick note...Sooner Plant Farm sent them super fast! Received them 3 days after paying and in pristine condition!! I won't buy from any other company!!!
