It has beautiful thick dark green leaves in summer changing to fluorescent yellow to orange to scarlet to purple colors in fall. Blackgums are known to be dioecious, which means that male and female flowers are produced on separate plants, however, perfect flowers are also produced in each plant that will aid in fruit production.
