Not only does this magical change appear on the leaves, but the shape of each leaf resembles a trident which further adds interest to this shrub. In summer, large lavender to purple single flowers with dark red centers appear and are a favorite for bees! Note: Althea is considered a woody shrub or tree and will not die back to the ground in winter like hardy hibiscus.
