Meet Yellow Cascade Dwarf Weeping Japanese Maple, a golden twist on the beloved weeping Japanese maple form. Unlike typical lace-leaf weepers, this variety flaunts bold, palmate leaves in a glowing butter-yellow through spring and summer. Come fall, the foliage ignites in rich oranges and fiery reds, ensuring multi-season brilliance in any garden.
The cascading form of Yellow Cascade Dwarf Weeping Japanese Maple mirrors that of the famous Ryusen Weeping Japanese Maple, but with a golden palette that feels entirely fresh. Left unstaked, it gracefully spills across the ground as a golden carpet; when trained upright, it can be staked to any height before arching downward in a fountain of color. Its versatility allows you to shape it into a specimen tree, groundcover, or even a cascading standalone focal point.
Discovered and introduced by plantsman Talon Buchholz, Yellow Cascade Dwarf Weeping Japanese Maple is still considered a rare find among collectors. Hardy in USDA Zones 5–8, it is fast-growing, heat-tolerant, and offers that elusive mix of vigor and elegance. Whether gracing a Japanese-inspired garden or adding an artistic focal point to a small space, it lives up to its name, pouring golden light into the landscape.

YELLOW CASCADE DWARF WEEPING JAPANESE MAPLE Homeowner Growing & Maintenance Tips
- Recommended Soil: Thrives in rich, well-drained soil. Prefers slightly acidic to neutral pH. Amend with compost to improve drainage and fertility.
- Sun Exposure: Best color with morning sun and afternoon shade. Protect from intense afternoon heat to prevent leaf scorch. Performs well in dappled or filtered light.
- Irrigation Needs: Keep evenly moist, especially during establishment. Deep water weekly during dry spells. Mulch around root zone to maintain moisture and protect roots.
- Feeding & Nutrients: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Supplement with organic matter for long-term soil health. Avoid overfeeding, which can reduce foliage vibrancy.
- Pruning & Maintenance: Stake young trees to set desired height, then let branches cascade. Prune lightly in late winter to maintain shape. Remove deadwood and crossing branches for airflow.
