Erysistible™ Fire Wallflower brings the drama of a volcano to the perennial border. Its glowing fire-red flowers create an energetic display above a neat, well-branched habit, with warm tones that can shift toward orange and yellow as the flowers develop. The result is a colorful tapestry giving this wallflower the appearance of a lava flow or campfire in the garden.
Erysistible™ Fire Wallflower series was bred with a controlled, compact habit and strong garden performance in mind, helping it maintain a more polished appearance than some older wallflowers can manage. Expect flowering to begin in early spring, with additional bloom later in the fall. The narrow foliage also adds subtle texture when the flowers aren't stealing the spotlight.
Erysistible™ Fire Wallflower isn't just about looks, either. This drought-tolerant wallflower appreciates sunshine and very well drained soil, making it particularly useful for gravel gardens, rock gardens, sunny edges and other locations where thirsty plants may struggle. Butterflies and other pollinators can find its flowers appealing, while its heat tolerance helps it stay useful when spring turns into summer. The Erysistible™ series is notable for being the first Erysimum series bred and marketed with Zone 5 hardiness across its range, giving northern gardeners a particularly exciting wallflower option. With its repeat-blooming habit and low maintenance care, Erysistible™ Fire Wallflower will have you bathing in the warmth of its blooms.

ERYSISTIBLE FIRE WALLFLOWER Homeowner Growing & Maintenance Tips
- Recommended Soil:
- Choose loose, well-drained soil that allows excess water to move away quickly from the root zone.
- Average to somewhat dry garden soil works well when drainage is reliable.
- Gravelly, sandy or lean soils can suit this drought-tolerant wallflower particularly well.
- Avoid heavy clay and winter-wet locations, which can create stressful conditions around the roots.
- Sun Exposure:
- Full sun is ideal for abundant flowering and the strongest, most compact growth.
- Provide several hours of direct sunlight daily, particularly during the main growing season.
- Excellent light helps maintain the controlled habit associated with the Erysistible™ series.
- Some light afternoon protection may be useful in exceptionally hot climates, provided the plant still receives ample sun.
- Irrigation Needs:
- Water regularly while newly planted roots are becoming established.
- Once established, allow the soil to dry somewhat between thorough waterings.
- Erysistible™ Fire has useful drought tolerance and generally prefers conditions on the drier side.
- Avoid frequent shallow irrigation and prolonged moisture around the crown.
- Feeding & Nutrients:
- Feed lightly in spring with a balanced fertilizer intended for flowering perennials.
- Moderate fertility is generally preferable to heavily enriched soil.
- Avoid excessive nitrogen, which may encourage soft growth rather than abundant flowers.
- A spring feeding followed by sensible maintenance is usually sufficient for established plants.
- Pruning & Maintenance:
- Deadhead fading flower clusters to encourage additional flowering and maintain a tidy appearance.
- Trim lightly after a major flowering flush if the plant needs shaping or rejuvenation.
- Remove damaged foliage and spent stems as needed throughout the growing season.
- Maintain good airflow around the crown and avoid allowing mulch or debris to remain piled against the plant.

Interesting Notes About ERYSISTIBLE FIRE WALLFLOWER
- Wallflower With a Wild History: Wallflowers belong to the mustard family, Brassicaceae, placing them in botanical company with familiar vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli and mustard. Their ornamental flowers are considerably more glamorous than their edible relatives might suggest.
- The Name Has a Story: The common name "wallflower" comes from the tendency of traditional wallflowers to grow in cracks, crevices and old masonry, where their roots could find a foothold in surprisingly inhospitable places.
- A Breeding Breakthrough: Erysistible™ was developed as the first Zone 5-hardy Erysimum series offered in a range of novelty flower colors, combining improved cold tolerance with more controlled habits and early-season color.
- Not Just a Pretty Face: The Erysistible™ series was specifically selected for pollinator-friendly performance, and Fire's brightly colored flowers can provide an attractive nectar stop for butterflies during the spring flowering period.
- Fire Is One of Several: Erysistible™ Fire is part of a broader series that includes colors such as Magenta, Yellow, Bronze Rose and Tricolor. That means gardeners can create a coordinated wallflower display while still mixing several distinct flower personalities.
