Warren Roberts Manzanita is one of those rare shrubs that never seems to have an "off season." Fiery orange-red new growth emerges each spring, creating a brilliant display that gradually matures into striking blue-gray evergreen foliage. The dramatic contrast between fresh and mature leaves gives the shrub a vibrant, ever-changing appearance that draws attention throughout the year. Twisting branches and smooth mahogany-colored bark add another layer of beauty, creating a naturally sculptural form that becomes even more impressive with age. Whether planted as a specimen, massed along a hillside, or allowed to spill gracefully over a retaining wall, Warren Roberts Manzanita brings bold character to the landscape.

As winter settles in, this remarkable evergreen begins another spectacular performance. Clusters of delicate pink, urn-shaped flowers cover the branches from late winter into early spring, providing one of the earliest nectar sources for hummingbirds, bees, and other beneficial pollinators. The soothing blue foliage creates the perfect backdrop for the rosy blooms, producing a color combination that is both elegant and unforgettable. After flowering, attractive little apple-like fruits develop and are quickly enjoyed by birds and wildlife. Gardeners searching for a drought tolerant evergreen shrub, low-water landscape plant, wildlife-friendly shrub, or four-season ornamental will find it checks every box.

Beyond its beauty, Warren Roberts Manzanita is exceptionally durable once established. It thrives in full sun and adapts well to average and even poor soils with good drainage. Its expected mature size makes it an outstanding choice for foundations, slopes, erosion control, naturalistic plantings, and water-wise landscapes. If desired, lower branches may be selectively removed to showcase its beautiful cinnamon and mahogany bark, creating an even more dramatic architectural presence. Few evergreen shrubs offer this remarkable combination of color, texture, wildlife value, and resilience.
