Buy Native Switch Grass online. Native to nearly all parts of the United States, this common ornamental grass is a diverse species. Drought resistant once established, but can be grown in average to wet soils in full sun to part shade. Great for soil conservation, forage and grazing, game cover, soils with low fertility, and as an ornamental in the garden. Switch Grass has a tall, columnar form with medium green leaves that turn golden yellow in fall and tan in winter. In mid-summer, foliage is topped with misty pink flower panicles that float above the grass clump like a cloud. Seeds are a food source for birds in the winter.
