Buy Crystal Fountain™ Clematis online. This free-flowering variety produces massive violet-blue flowers that adorned with crystal blue petaloid stamens. The first round of flowers is produces in late spring to early summer, then the second round appears in late summer to early fall. This clematis should be pruned in late winter to early spring before new growth starts and after the first flush of flowers in early summer. In late winter/early spring, remove any dead of weak stems. On individual stems, prune only from the top down to the first pair of healthy buds, removing any spindly or damaged growth above. Do not prune heavily or you will lose flower production for that year. After the first flush of flowers, prune back to large buds or a strong side shoot below spent blooms.

CRYSTAL FOUNTAIN™ CLEMATIS Homeowner Growing & Maintenance Tips

Clematis is easy to grow and adapts to most conditions. See Pruning Group information for detailed pruning instructions. Feed once a year with a slow release fertilizer.

Interesting Notes About CRYSTAL FOUNTAIN™ CLEMATIS

Clematis can be grown in full sun or light shade, but its base and roots prefer to be completely shaded. You may need to plant a small shrub or large perennial directly in front of its root ball to keep it cool and shaded. A thick layer of mulch will also help to keep the soil moist. This vine prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained, slightly alkaline soil. Adding lime to the soil will help to provide these conditions. When planting clematis, it is important to plant it 3" deeper than it was in the original pot. Bury the first set of entire leaves to encourage the production of strong shoots from below soil level and to discourage clematis wilt.
