Alexander's Great Brunnera lives up to its name with colossal, heart-shaped leaves washed in luminous silver and traced with bold green veining. The foliage forms a dramatic, architectural mound that instantly commands attention in shaded gardens. Each leaf feels oversized and sculptural, creating a lush presence that reads more like living art than a typical perennial.
In spring, airy sprays of tiny sky-blue flowers rise above the foliage, echoing the look of forget-me-nots and softening the plant's bold proportions. While the blooms are charming, the real star is the foliage, which remains handsome and effective from spring through fall. This variety excels as a statement plant in woodland borders and shaded foundations where its size can be fully appreciated.
More tolerant of occasional dryness than many Brunnera, Alexander's Great Brunnera still prefers cool, moist conditions and rich soil. It is not a hybrid of Jack Frost Brunnera, but a distinct selection with significantly larger leaves and a stronger visual presence. For gardeners seeking drama, texture, and reliable performance in shade, this perennial is a true centerpiece plant.

Interesting Notes About ALEXANDER'S GREAT BRUNNERA
- A Giant Among Brunnera: 'Alexander's Great' is notably larger than most Siberian bugloss varieties, forming broad mounds that can exceed two feet in width under ideal conditions.
- A Belarusian Discovery: This cultivar was discovered as a chance seedling by Alexander Zukeivich in his garden in Belarus, where its exceptional size immediately set it apart.
- Not a Jack Frost Sport: Despite visual similarities, 'Alexander's Great' is not derived from 'Jack Frost' and stands on its own as a distinct, larger-growing selection.
- Named for a Botanist, Not a Warrior: The genus Brunnera honors Swiss botanist Samuel Brunner, while the cultivar name nods to its discoverer rather than Alexander the Great.
- Generally Deer Resistant: Like other Brunnera macrophylla selections, this plant is typically avoided by deer and rabbits due to its coarse, textured foliage.
