This little tree is a star in my garden. I'm in zone 9, but it holds its color despite the summer heat. If you must plant it this far south, make sure it's an understory planting surrounded by larger trees, and keep it well-watered.

Bloodgood Japanese Red Maple is the most popular Japanese Maple tree due to is consistent deep reddish purple leaf and and dark stem color. Bloodgood is a medium to slow growing round-headed tree. It also has excellent deep red fall color.
