Prunus virginiana 'Canada Red'
See what our great customers had to say about the Prunus virginiana 'Canada Red'.
I cannot recommend highly enough--this is the best ornamental/fruiting tree I've yet discovered for the mountains of Colorado (7600' elevation). Very vigorous grower that tends to sucker - needs occasional trimming to maintain single trunk. Only possible problem is that it would probably naturalize its own grove if allowed. Striking colour really stands out next to aspen trees! Cyclic fruit seems to bumper crop every third year if you can beat the birds.
Reviewed on Mar-02-2009CHOKECHERRY 'CANADA RED'
Canada Red Chokecherry is a very vigorous grower. It has a straight trunk and very uniform well rounded branch structure. The color of the foliage is beautifully intense, with new growth first appearing green, then turning dark purplish red as the season progresses. Also produces small fruit good for making jams.
