Flowers are similar to petunia-flowers and bloom freely from late spring to frost. 'Purple Showers' is a sterile variety but can spread quickly by underground rhizomes. Considered as a much less invasive than the non-sterile Mexican species. Honored as a Missouri Botanical Garden Plant of Merit.
