  1. Randy - May 03, 2013
    Ohio (Hardiness Zone: 5)

Edie and Guy Sternberg created this at 'Starhill Forest Arboretum'

I was the last person here to purchase all remaining stock, 4 plants @ 3-4 feet. They arrived in good order however last year 2012 was a horrible spring and a worst summer, with heat topping 90 daily for 3 months. 3 out of 4 survived. This same month the following year, They all have put on 2-5 inches in 2 months. They are very strong plants like any true oak, and are forgiving if you forget to water them.

Close to 'Regal Prince' Oak. 'Kindred Spirit' 'Birthday Candle' and 'Crimson Spire' or any other Column oaks. Leaves are represented to Swamp Oak, 'giants' at 7 inches long.

Like any oak they like a decent amount of water however these enjoy it a bit more. Place tword's low spots in the yard. Mulch accordingly. Slow to Med growth.

I doubt many of these trees have been produced yet and i will one day have the pictures to show you this rare tree, at a more mature age. At the moment they are 3 year old trees.

Quote: "Another Starhill oak cultivar is the popular ‘Chimney Fire’. This upright, columnar oak makes a great specimen tree. Among oaks, it offers a more compact habit, up to 60’ tall and 20’ wide, so it fits into a variety of landscapes. From spring through fall, ‘Chimney Fire’ offers great color with bright red spring foliage and rusty red fall hues."

Share your story here! Thanks Sooner for I will order more trees to come.
