Heptacodium miconoides is one of my favorite shrubs. It's a tough hardy plant that has nice blooms, great fall attraction, exfoliating bark to add interest. It doesn't seem to be bothered much by deer, which are abundant in my area. Everybody should have a few of these beauties !!!

  2. Robert - Feb 04, 2013
    Indiana (Hardiness Zone: 5)

I had one I grew about 11 yrs.(zone5) in most sun. It grew quite large in shrubby form with great whitish, exfoliating bark. Flowers have a wonderful allspice like scent and the following red sepals are just as nice. branches need cleaning up a bit once in a while and it's a bit of a bee magnet (non-aggressive) in flower but overall it's a great plant.
